Regina Elisabeta a II-a a murit la vârsta de 96 de ani, anunţă Palatul Buckingham.
Moartea reginei pune capăt celei mai lungi domnii din istoria Marii Britanii.
Regina Elisabeta a fost, de asemenea, cel mai în vârstă şef de stat din lume.
„Regina a murit în pace, la Balmoral în această după-amiază. Regele şi Regina Consort vor rămâne la Balmoral în această seară şi se vor întoarce mâine la Londra”, a precizat Palatul Buckingham.
La moartea ei, fiul cel mare şi moştenitorul reginei, Charles, fostul Prinţ de Wales, a devenit rege al Regatului Unit şi al 14 regate din Commonwealth.
